Vendor Barcode Information
We would like all vendors to place a GS1-128 (EAN/UCC EAN-128) barcode on all product boxes.
You will need a UPC Manufacture Number. If you do not have one, you may apply for one at the GS1 US website.
This is an example of our GS1-128 or UCC/EAN-128 barcode. Our EAN-128 barcode starts with '01', the followed by a '9' indicating variable weight. The next 7 digits representing the manufacturer's code followed by 5 digits representing your product code followed by a check digit.
The next Application identifier (AI) is '11',
indicating
the manufacturing date in YYMMDD format, which is followed by the date in that
format. For example, '11 040728' indicates that the manufacturing date was
July 28th, 2004.
The next AI is '3202' for weight in pounds with 2 decimal places (for kilograms
use '3102'). For example, '3202 001580' specifies that the product is 15.8
lbs and '3202 001000' specifies that the product is 10 lbs.
The last AI is '21', indicating the container serial code using a variable
length format. Since this is a variable length field, it must be placed at
the end of the barcode. Follow AI '21' with a unique number for each box.
