1. Cooking A Cold Steak
One of the most common mistakes is not waiting until the steak has reached room temperature before cooking. If you try to cook a cold steak it will cook unevenly and cause the edges to burn.
2. Turning Your Steak Only Once
A common misconception is to only flip your steak once while cooking to achieve the perfect steak. In reality, only flipping the steak once could be drying out the steak. If you flip your steak a few times while cooking, especially at higher temps will allow your steak to cook quicker and result in a juicier steak.
3. Not letting Your Steak Rest
As tempting as it might be, avoid cutting into the steak immediately after pulling it out of the pan. If you do this all of the juices will spill out onto the plate instead of soaking into the steak. The reason why you should let the steak sit is because while the steak sits its fibers will expand and absorb any leftover moisture.
4. Not Using A Meat Thermometer
Even though there are visual cues to see how done your steak is, looks can be deceiving. You are better off using a meat thermometer to accurately measure the doneness of the steak.
5. Not Cleaning Your Grill
Make sure to clean your grill after each use with a wired brush! If your grill is dirty and you try to cook steaks the debris might cut and tear into the steak while cooking.
