For this Meat Tip Monday, we will be focusing on how to make a poached egg sandwich. First, you want to stop by either The Meat Market or Local Source foods and pick up some fresh local eggs, some thick-cut bacon, ham, and your favorite cheese. To learn how to make a poached egg sandwich, please follow these tips:
How to Poach an Egg
First, bring a large pot of water to boil. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low or completely off. Then, crack the egg over a mesh sieve into a small bowl. This process will remove the liquid whites. While the egg is in the small bowl, pour one tablespoon of light-colored vinegar into the cooking pot and stir until it creates a large vortex. Once you create a vortex quickly pour the egg into the middle of it and let it cook for 3 minutes. Use a spoon to remove the egg once it’s done cooking and use a paper towel to get any excess water off of it.
Poach Egg Tips
Don’t worry; you don’t have to eat your egg right away. Once the egg is fully poached, place it in an ice-water bath and store it in the fridge. Your egg can stay good for up to 2 days while inside the fridge. When you are ready to eat your egg add some hot water into a bowl and add the egg for about 20 seconds.
Make It a Sandwich
Start by adding your ham, and then gently, with a spoon add your poached egg. Once your poached egg is on your sandwich, carefully add your cheese and bacon, making sure not to push too hard down on the egg.
