How to Cook a Whole Chicken
07.16.2025 Poultry
Whole birds are intimidating! But UWP is here to help! Cooking a whole chicken is actually pretty simple- the hardest part is waiting until it’s fully cooked to eat it with how good it makes the kitchen smell This dish is so versatile you can serve it up with just about anything- potatoes, salad, pasta, roasted veggies, rice; in soup, sandwiches, enchiladas, and more!
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (3lbs is the sweet spot for oven roasting)
- UWP Gourmet Seasoning
- ½ cup butter
- 1 stalk celery, leaves removed
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
-
Place chicken in a roasting pan; season generously inside and out with UWP Seasoning. Place 3 tablespoons of butter in chicken cavity; arrange dollops of remaining butter on the outside of chicken. Cut celery and place in the chicken cavity.
-
Bake chicken uncovered in the preheated oven until no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on chicken size. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone, should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). It’s best to check a few places to get an accurate reading.
-
Remove from the oven and baste with drippings. Cover with aluminum foil and allow to rest for about 30 minutes before serving!
